Long-time member of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC), outgoing MACORP CEO Jorge Medina, was on Sunday honoured by his fellow golfers, dignitaries and friends who acknowledged his immense contribution to the development of golf and Guyana overall.

Ambassador to Guyana Perry Holloway, accompanied by his wife; Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan; Banks DIH CEO Clifford Reis, and other members and guests who came out to show their appreciation for Medina.
Medina has been a part of the club for almost two decades, and has been one of the driving forces behind the club’s restoration over the past year. Vacating his post as CEO of the machinery giant, Medina was given a sentimental farewell following Sunday’s tourney.

of the LGC. He said Median has been instrumental in the expansion of the sport, and adding that it was his love and commitment to the sport which allowed the new LGC executives to fully execute plans of ground restoration. He lent millions of dollars in equipment to the club as part of their repair process.
Medina’s successor, Guillermo Escarraga, an avid golfer himself, thanked Medina for introducing him to the sport, after he initially had resented it. Escarraga added that Medina has set the standards for development in golf, while his dedication as head of MACORP had also been reflected in the company’s overwhelming success.
Escarraga highlighted that the dedication and drive to improve the standards of golf and golfers in Guyana will continue under his guidance.
Medina, in his brief remarks, said his best years were spent in Guyana, more so as part of the LGC, which he joined back in ‘96.

including Escarraga, to take up the sport. He said his works were driven by the sole purpose of development in general; whether it is business or sport.
Following the tournament, Medina, who hails from Colombia, was awarded with a life membership plaque by fellow LGC member and one of his first golf buddies upon moving to Guyana, Minister Bulkan.
The MACORP boss also received a special award, compliments of the club and its members, for his contribution to golf and the club over the years. (Clifton Ross)
