Men charged with causing death of 4-year-old

Two men were granted 0,000 bail each when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with causing death by dangerous driving.ambeka-providence
Derick Bailey, 21, of Lot 336 Satchi Bazar, Prashad Nagar, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 10, at Sheriff and Garnett Streets, he drove motor car GPP 3500 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Abiola Providence, aged 4.
Heranand Boodram, 22, also pleaded not guilty to driving motor car Pambeka-providenceMM 1426 in a dangerous manner thereby causing the death of Abiola Providence.
According to the facts, Bailey was backing out of the parking lot of a Royal Castle outlet when Boodram slammed into his vehicle. The deceased, who was an occupant of Boodram’s vehicle, was flung through the window and onto the road. The little girl and two of her relatives were in the back seat of the car which was proceeding south on Sheriff Street.
The car had stopped at the junction of the aforementioned streets and was, in the process of turning west when GPP 3500, which was proceeding north, collided with the left side of the car.  Providence was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, their Attorney successfully petitioned for bail and requested a speedy trial.
After the defendants were granted bail, family members of Providence were heard screaming threats in their direction.
One woman was heard wishing for the death of Bailey’s baby who is said to be only a few months old.
