Men robbed of over $5M while travelling in minibus

Two employees of Elite Protection Service located at Leonora on the West Coast Demerara (WCD), were robbed of over $5 million dollars in cash on Friday, while travelling in a minibus. As such, an investigation has been launched.
According to reports, the employees, a 45-year-old male of Leguan, Essequibo River, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), and a 71-year-old male of Wakenaam, Essequibo River, Region Three, were robbed of five million eight hundred twenty-six thousand nine hundred sixty-one dollars cash ($5,826,961) by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
The robbery occurred at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), at about 11:30h.
It was reported that the two employees were respectively paid $3 million, after which they left the office at Leonora and joined a minibus driven by a 42-year-old man of Greenwich Park, EBE.
After the victims joined the bus, it is alleged that one of the suspects joined the bus at Leonora and went into the third seat, while the second suspect joined the bus at Zeelugt and went into the front seat of the bus.
One of the suspects reportedly requested that the driver go into Clay Brick Road to collect his grandmother and he offered to pay $2000 extra for the request. As the driver was proceeding in the direction given by the suspect, in the vicinity of the northern end aback of Clay Brick Road, the suspect who was in the third seat caused the driver to stop and pulled out a handgun.
The suspects then proceeded to rob the two victims of the monies.
Police said during the robbery, the suspect who was in the front seat pulled the keys out of the bus’s ignition after which he ran to a motorcycle that was parked a short distance away from the bus. He was joined by the other suspect, and they both subsequently escaped on the said motorcycle.
The victims were also robbed of a Blu cellular phone valued at $5000, a Samsung J7 cellular phone valued at $30,000, a Grand Prime phone valued at $20,000, and an S10 Samsung Galaxy phone valued at $60,000.
Police are now hunting the suspects. (G9)
