Metro Office and computer Supplies since 2009 has been the official sponsor of the Rose Hall Town Metro Female Team and the company during the RHTY&SC’s 26th annual awards ceremony handed over a cheque for $200,000 for the 2016 sponsorship.
Club Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, stated that the RHTY&SC was very proud to have Guyana’s only female cricket team and noted that since its formation in 2008, the team has done remarkably well on and off the cricket field.
The Metro Female Team over the years has produced players like West Indies stars Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings, while Tremayne Smartt also represented it in the past. Players like Melanie Henry, Plaffina Millington, Nikita Henry, Shenneta Grimmond, S. Gajnabi, Shanna Vanderstoop and Triesha Cort have all represented Guyana at different levels, while numerous others have represented Berbice.
The Metro Female Team in 2009 won the only female national championship ever organised in Guyana. Currently, the team under the leadership of Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings and Managers Elizabeth Brusch and Felisha Archer plays along their male counterparts in Berbice Cricket Board organised junior cricket tournament.
Foster explained that due to non-existence of other female cricket teams in Guyana, the Metro Female team has to play against males at the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels. He extended profound gratitude to the management and staff of the company for their continued confidence in the club and its female cricket team.
Captain of the team, Shemaine Campbelle, recommitted her team to upholding the high tradition it has set itself in terms of discipline, commitment and performance on the field. The team in 2016 would undertake 15 major personal developmental programmes under the name of the sponsorship.
Metro Chief Executive Officer, Avie Lindee, expressed delight at the renewal of the sponsorship and stated that the office supplies giant was pleased to be associated with the RHTY&SC and its female cricket team.
The Metro brand, Lindee noted, has been well represented by the team and congratulated Shemaine Campbelle on her World Cup success with the West Indies team. Lindee committed her company to continuing supporting the team in the future before handing over the sponsorship cheque to club Patron, President David Granger.
