Wendell Meusa was crowned the champion at the end of the day when the Guyana Chess Federation hosted the Trophy Stall Sponsored one- day FIDE Rapid Chess tournament on Saturday.
The event was hosted at the National Resource Centre on Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands. Meusa remained undefeated after the seven rounds of the Swiss system.
This event marked the beginning of the Chess Federation’s season that set the tone of the rest of the year as the Federation is expected to host their Annual General Meeting soon.
Meusa was challenged by Anthony Drayton in a thrilling clash that saw Drayton suffer his only loss and end the tournament on six points.
Third place went to Chino Chung who secured five points but the key contest was the five-way deadlock of Saeed Ali, Maria Varona-Thomas, Joshua Gopaul, Davion Mars and Andre Jagnandan on four points.
Six players were also locked on three points including Waveney and Mellisha Johnson, Sophia and Joshua Singh as well as Akili Theophil and Jayden Taylor.
Rashad Hussain secured 2.5 points and siah McAlman had one point.
