This was done in a simple ceremony held at the Marriott hotel in Georgetown, courtesy of that hotel’s General Manager Eduardo Reple.
LGC President Aleem Hussain and PRO/Asst. Secretary Bishop Guy Griffith did the honours in presenting the document to His Excellency Jose Omar Hurtado Contreras on behalf of the Executive Committee of the LGC. In welcoming
the Ambassador to the club on behalf of the Executive team and members, Bishop Griffith said, “We look forward to having you being a frequent visitor to our wonderful facility.”
At the behest of past LGC president Hemraj Kissoon, current president Aleem Hussain and executive team have made tremendous efforts to expand the appeal of the game of golf to a wide range of participants, and His Excellency Jose Hurtado Contreras is the latest addition to a long list of dignitaries who are now a part of the club.
The ambassador made known that he is very impressed with the gesture, and has vowed to make the commitment to get involved in the sport, along with other members of the embassy.
“I am very grateful to the club’s president and executive for extending this honour to myself and family, and we all look forward to being at the club on a regular basis, and to extend the hand of friendship between our countries,” the ambassador has said.
During the past two years, the sport of golf has seen a dramatic increase in the number of events, members and activities both on and off the course. Major contributions by Macorp have aided the development of the grounds and allowed more playing days than ever before.
This year, the LGC will host several special events, starting with the Easter Family Gathering, wherein thousands of families descend upon the grounds for a festival of kite-flying.
