Former President Bharrat Jagdeo was given the Key to the City of Miami by Mayor Thomas Regalado.
It was presented by Wallis Tinnie, former Chief of Protocol of Miami at a special dinner in honour of his visit to Miami to deliver the prestigious 18th Annual Eric E Williams Memorial Lecture at Florida International University.
At the event, former President Jagdeo received proclamations and greetings from a number of Florida officials, including US Senator Bill Nelson, Mayor Carlos Gimenez of Miami-Dade County, Mayor Philip Stoddard of South Miami, Mayor Walter Campbell of Coral Springs, Mayor Jeri Muoio of West Palm Beach, Mayor Frank Ortis of the City of Pembroke Pines, and Commissioner Danielle Cava of Miami-Dade County.
The lecture titled; “The Caribbean and American Presidential Power: A Donald Trump Ascendancy” was delivered at Florida International University on Friday, September 30. It attracted a large audience including Foreign Minister Frederick Mitchell of The Bahamas, members of the Caribbean Consular Corps, local elected officials, members of the Miami-Dade and Broward County’s community, and professors, students, and administrators from Florida International University.
The function was co-sponsored by the African and African Diaspora Centre at FIU and the Eric Williams Memorial Collection Research Library, Archives and Museum located in Miami and at the St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies.
