Michael Anthony bests “Padlock” in 35-lap event

Universal Auto & General Supplies 11-Race cycling event…

In the 35-lap cycling event that was staged at the National Park on Saturday last, an intense clash between cycling giants Michael Anthony and Andre “Padlock” Greene, who tailed each other for over 20 minutes in a race that lasted some 1 hour, 17 minutes, saw Anthony emerge winner while the Berbician “Padlock” copped second position in a nail-biting finish to a contest that saw numerous cyclists dropping out of the race.

The lad from Berbice controlled the pack in the earlier stages of the race, while the experienced Anthony led the race for most of its duration, as the small gathering watched the competition from the confines of the playfield.
Team Evolution’s Paul De Nobrega rode in third after Anthony and Greene, who had enjoyed a huge lead over the others. In fourth position was Junior Niles, who showed his experience riding in top gear. Christopher Griffith came in fifth, while Marcus Keiler rode in sixth.

This 35-lap event was the 15th of its kind to be sponsored by the Universal Auto and General Supplies. It was also the grand finale on the 11-race cycling card, and Prime prizes were won by Walter Grant-Stewart, Aleno Cumbroes, Marcus Keiler, Junior Niles and Michael Anthony, who controlled the race to cop the sprint prize on four occasions.
In the year 2018, Jamal John won the 35-lap event in a time of 1 hour 15 minutes. In the 10 lap event in 2018, Ajay Gopilall finished in 25 minutes.
In the first two editions of this race, Sherwin Sampson had won the veteran event while Jeremiah Joseph had won the juvenile race.
