Milerock hammer Top XX 4-1 in Linden’s opener

GFF/NAMILCO National U-17 Football…

Milerock defeated Top XX 4-1 on the opening day of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO) National Under-17 Thunderbolt Flour Power in the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA).

Playing at the Wisburd Secondary School Ground on Saturday, Tyrese Lewis scored two goals, while Joel Dow and Lorenzo Miller scored a goal each; Carlon Jones was the lone scorer for TOPPXX.

In the second game the UDFA U-17 defending Champions Eagles United made light of Silver Shattas FC, easing to a 2-0 win, as Javier Smith and Jamal Allicock taking their team to victory with a goal apiece.

Matches will continue on Wednesday, where Amelias Ward Panthers come against Eagles United and Milrock play Botafago at the Wisburg Ground.

Prior to the matches, the launching of the League took place, with President of GFF Wayne Forde, NAMILCO Marketing Consultant Afeez Khan , President of the UDFA Sharma Solomon and PRO Vanessa Kissoon.

Forde in his remarks urged the players to perform their best, as the league is seen as the building block for the country’s future stars. He added that the league will allow for players from all across Guyana to get a chance to showcase talent worthy enough of being on the National Team.

Solomon in his remarks, voiced that it was important and necessary for a sponsor in the form of NAMILCO sees it fit to invest in the prime assets of the sport, the youths.

Meanwhile in the Essequibo Coast / Pomeroon Football Association, both Queenstown and Super 11 won via walkover via their respective opponents Good Hope and Henrietta.

Unfortunately, in the other associations, overnight rain, hampered any matches being played.

The Thunderbolt Tournament spans throughout the football associations of Guyana and has the majority of its match days slated for weekends at the various community grounds.

The Milling Company has been in existence since 1969 and produces several heath oriented products such as Maid Marian Harvest High Fibre Whole Wheat Flour, Maid Marian Wheat-Up Breakfast Porridge, and Maid Marian Multigrain Flour among many other products.
