Home Sports Milerock in must-win situation against Shattas
Divine Entertainment Summer Super Cup…
It’s a make-or-break night, this third night of the Divine Entertainment’s Summer Super Cup football championship, which continues with another double-header card tonight (Friday) at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
Tonight’s encounters will pit Milerock against Silver Shattas in a Group ‘D’ match-up from 19:00hrs, and that will be followed by a Group ‘B’ game involving Amelia’s Ward Panthers colliding with Blueberry Hill United, from 21:00 hrs.
Milerock are ‘up against it’, coming off a 2-1 defeat to Botafago on Wednesday night when they faced the third team in their group, and must win against the Shattas if they hope to come out of that bracket.
Botafago were able to gain maximum points through first half goals by: Tyrese Davidson, who opened the scoring for Botafago in the 8th minute; and Jamal Haynes, who made it 2-0 as Botafago took advantage at lemon time 2-0.
Milerock were able to reduce that deficit when Colwyn Davidson netted in the 74th minute of play, but Botafago ran out winners by a 2-1 scoreline.
But, avoiding defeat, the Shattas could put themselves in a position to advance with one game to play, a toss-up against Botafago.
On Wednesday night also, Haynes and Lewis’ Winners Connection and Capital FC failed to gain full points, their game ending 1-1.
Cedric Hunte first put his Winners Connection team ahead in the 21st minute, but capitalising on a defensive error, Capital FC’s Emmanuel Atkins slotted home the equaliser in the 86th minute of play.
Amelia’s Ward Panthers who, held Net Rockers to a 1-1 drawn when they clashed in a Group ‘B’ match, are hoping to get full points when they face Blueberry Hill United in game two.
Panthers would do well to win and hope that they can advance without a defeat, but Blueberry Hill are going to push for a win and try to dislodge Net Rockers in the other game of that group, in order to advance as the top team from their section.
Come Sunday, the continuation of the championship will see Topp XX against Coomacka in game one, and Haynes and Lewis Winners Connection oppose Hi Stars in the other match.
