Miner accused of breaking into store gets $400,000 bail

At his appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday, a Hogg Street, Albouystown, Georgetown miner, who had been initially remanded to prison for allegedly breaking into a store and stealing items valued over $5M, was granted $400,000 bail.
Akeem Marshall, a 28-year-old father of one, was charged with three counts of break and enter and larceny when he appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weever in October. Then, he had no legal representative.
He is accused of breaking into Shabana & Sons Liquor Mart & General Store between August 18 and 19 in Albouystown, Georgetown, and stealing $4,765,000 in cash, $1 million worth of GTT and Digicel phone cards, an Xbox worth $60,000, and two cell phones worth $40,000 in total.

Marshall, who is currently being represented by Attorney Patrice Henry, has refuted the accusations.
During the October proceedings, Marshall’s release on bail was opposed by the Police prosecutor, who brought up the seriousness of the crime and the amount of money at stake.
Additionally, the prosecution disclosed that Marshall’s fingerprints were discovered at the location of the crime and that there is security footage that shows him carrying out the act.
Before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday, Attorney Henry responded to the prosecutor’s objections by saying that his client has no prior convictions and is not a flight risk.
The attorney also informed the court that his client was prepared to follow any terms imposed on bail. In the end, Magistrate Daly declared that she was inclined to grant the accused bail, under the condition that he regularly report to the Brickdam Police Station’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) while the matter is heard and determined.
The defendant was instructed to return to court on January 15, 2024. Marshall has previously been accused of armed robbery. According to sources, the charges against him were dropped because the Police did not hold a proper identification parade.A
