Miner brutally murdered while protecting reputed wife from rogue gang
A miner was on Friday brutally murdered while protecting his reputed wife from a gang of men at White Water Backdam, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini).
The dead man has been identified as 26-year-old Kevin Allam of Tune Basin, Port Kaituma, NWD.
Based on information received, about 17:30h on the day in question, the dead man’s reputed wife was at their shop when the three suspects approached her and held onto her hair. Upon seeing this, Allam went to her assistance, but he was also attacked and dealt several lashes about his body with a piece of wood.
After Allam fell unconscious, the three men dragged him a short distance from the shop where one of them whipped out a knife and slit his throat. After committing the act, the men reportedly left Allam in a pool of blood and returned to the shop where they relieved his spouse of a quantity of raw gold.
Guyana Times understands that they did not further harm the woman after she pleaded relentlessly for them to spare her life. After the men left, the Police were contacted and upon arriving at the scene, they saw the motionless body of the miner.
He was subsequently picked up and taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body was taken to the hospital mortuary to await a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Police, acting on information received, travelled to the water front where they arrested the three suspects. The men are expected to be arraigned for the heinous crime.
