Miner busted with ganja at boathouse

Police on Tuesday arrested a 53-year-old miner of Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD) after he was found with 279 grams of cannabis.
The incident occurred at around 10:00h at the Vulture Boat House at First Avenue Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

According to Police, ranks from the Bartica Police Station were on vehicle patrol in the vicinity of Vulture Boat House on First Avenue, Bartica when a male suspect, upon seeing the patrol, ran aback of the boathouse.
The Police gave chase and caught the suspect. Conducting a search on his person, they examined a black plastic bag that he had in his right hand, wherein was found a parcel wrapped in transparent plastic containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspect, when told of the offence committed and cautioned, admitted to ownership of the bag. He was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the suspected narcotics were weighed in his presence and amounted to 279 grams.
The suspect has been placed into custody, pending charges.
Only three days ago, a barber was busted with a quantity of cannabis during a Police operation at Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). According to reports, a mobile Police patrol was in the area when ranks observed the man standing in the vicinity of the car park, acting in a suspicious manner. He was approached and a request was made for him to be searched. During this activity, five transparent Ziplock plastic bags, each containing a quantity of ganja, were discovered.
He was arrested and taken to the Leonora Police Station, where the suspected cannabis sativa was weighed in his presence and amounted to 11 grams.
He remains in custody, pending charges. (G9)
