Miner busted with ganja in pipe

A 38-year-old miner of 111 Miles, Mahdia, Potaro River, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) was busted with 227 grams of compressed marijuana. Police arrested the man after the illicit substance was found in a pipe he was carrying. The arrest was made at the Mahdia Arcade Market about 18:00h.main-qimg-5ed59621e219fd7e7dab0b194fa75c3b-c

Reports are that Police ranks observed the miner acting in a suspicious manner, so the lawmen approached him to conduct a search of his person. At the time, he was carrying a six-inch length of pipe.

After the search on his person yielded no results, the pipe was searched during which a black plastic bag containing the illegal substance was found hidden within. The substance was taken out and weighed in his presence and amounted to 227g.

The suspect is expected to be charged shortly. Only on Saturday evening, a man and his reputed wife were arrested following the discovery of a ganja field at Hotoquai Village, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini).

Based on reports received, the Police conducted a search on a plot of land owned by the couple during which at least 400 cannabis plants ranging from one foot to three feet in height were found.

The plants were destroyed by the Police ranks.
