Miner busted with gun, ammo in Aremu Backdam

A miner was arrested on Saturday after he was busted with an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition at Aremu Backdam, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni)

Police stated that ranks responded to a report of the suspect discharging a loaded firearm in front of a shop at Aremu Backdam. Upon their arrival at the location, the shop owner reportedly pointed out to the ranks, two live rounds of 9mm ammunition and fifteen spent 9mm shells.
As such, Police acting on information went to a mining camp where the suspect was contacted and told of the allegations. The Police conducted a search on a hammock in which the suspect was reclining and found one 9mm Taurus pistol with its serial number filed off along with two magazines, one live 9mm ammunition and two .32 ammunition.
Further, the Police searched a storage box which was in the kitchen area and unearthed 10 12-gauge cartridges.
The miner was told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested. He was taken to the Bartica Police Station where he remains in custody pending charges.
