A 28-year-old man was on Monday arrested following the discovery of an improvised firearm and marching ammunition at Takatu, Puruni Trail, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The Police have said that on the day in question, at about 16:00h, ranks from the Puruni Police Outpost were on duty at Takatu, Puruni Trail, when they saw the suspect with a shotgun in his hands. He was reportedly approached, and inquiries were made as to whether he was a licensed firearm holder, to which he responded in the negative.
As a result, Police took possession of the improvised shotgun, which had one 12-gauge cartridge in the chamber. He was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested.
He subsequently admitted to ownership of the firearm, saying he had fabricated the weapon. He was taken to the Bartica Police Station along with the shotgun, where he is in custody and the firearm has been lodged.
