Miner charged for theft released on bail

A father of four was released on bail on Tuesday after denying a simple larceny charge which stated that he stole a $2.2 million Caterpillar swing gear.
Thirty-six-year-old Anson Mendonza of Matthews Ridge, Region One (Barima-Waini) appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday.
The charge stated that between April 1, 2018 and August 2, 2019 at Jack and Vieira Backland, North West District, he stole one Caterpillar swing gear valued $2.2 million, belonging to Joseph Gonsalves.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the defendant was arrested last Friday at Charity after Police received information that he was seen with the stolen equipment. Mendonza was arrested and charged.
Chief Magistrate McLennan released the defendant on $150,000 bail, and the matter was adjourned to November 4, 2019 at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
