Miner chopped after quitting job

A miner is currently hospitalised after being chopped during a confrontation at Toroparu Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Injured is Indeo Miguel of Karawab, Pomeroon, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam). Police reported that the chopping incident occurred around 19:00h on Thursday.
Reports are that Miguel left his camp and went to a nearby shop, where he began drinking. Upon his return to the camp, it was reported that he informed the suspect that he was leaving the job.
This angered the suspect, who was armed with a cutlass. He then confronted Miguel and struck him with to his left abdomen with the weapon. The 24-year-old man was rushed to the mining company’s infirmary, where he was treated by a Medex, who was on duty. He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted.
Investigations are ongoing.
