…remanded to prison
A miner who denied that he had an illegal gun along with ammunition in his possession was on Wednesday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Linton Trotman denied that on September 24, 2018 at Sussex Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 12 live rounds of ammunition without being the licensed owner. Another charge stated that on the same day and location the 24-year-old man had in his possession one 9mm pistol without being the licensed firearm holder.
In court on Wednesday, Trotman’s lawyer, in his application for bail, submitted to Magistrate Fabayo Azore that his client and several other persons were standing outside a club when someone from inside the club threw the firearm onto the ground. He said that despite this explanation, Trotman was arrested by the Police.
However, the Police Prosecutor, in objecting to bail, told the court that Trotman had admitted to having the unlicensed firearm in his possession. In his objection, the Prosecutor cited the seriousness of the charge and nature of the offence. As a result, Magistrate Azore upheld the prosecution’s submission and remanded Trotman to prison. The matter will continue on October 24, 2018.
