Police in F Division (Interior Locations) are currently probing the death of a 26-year-old miner, who died after a chunk of mud fell on his head.
Dead is Neville Rodrigues, a miner of Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).
The incident occurred at about 09:00h at Apanda Mines, Kamarang, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to reports, Rodrigues was working in a pit at the Apanda Mines along with other workers when a chunk of hard mud referred to as “catch cow” reportedly fell on his head. As a result of injuries sustained, the 26-year-old was rushed to the Jawalla Health Post in a serious condition.
However, the young man subsequently died at the health centre while receiving treatment. His body is at the Kamarang Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
In the meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.
