Miner gets 2 years suspended sentence on fraud charge

Twenty-one-year-old Elijah Douglas, a miner from Karau Village, Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), was on Monday sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence for an ‘Obtaining by False Pretense’ charge.

Douglas, who was arrested on October 25, 2025, appeared before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence.
