Miner granted $250,000 bail on sexual assault charge

A 46-year-old miner was on Thursday granted bail in the sum of 250,000 by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on a sexual assault charge
Odingo Emanuel also known as “Dingo” of Imbaimadai Landing was accused of having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent on August 10, 2018. He was required to plea to the charge when it was read to him.
The facts of the matter stated that on the day in question, at about 22:30h, the victim went to her friend’s wake, which was being held at a club, located about 10 feet away from her reputed husband’s house.
She was reportedly imbibing alcohol at the wake when she decided to look for her reputed husband.
The woman inquired about the man and it was then that the accused told her to check at the man’s house.
Upon her arrival at the house, the victim noticed the door half-opened and walked straight to the bedroom. She reportedly heard a sound coming from the front door and upon checking, she came face to face with her attacker.
At that time, she instructed him to leave but he reportedly remained silent. Soon after, the accused ran towards the woman, threw her onto the bed and committed the act.
The woman raised an alarm, thus resulting in her reputed husband running to her rescue. A report was made at the police station and the accused was arrested.
He will make his second court appearance on June 25, 2019, at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
