Miner nabbed with ganja at Itaballi Police checkpoint

A 29-year-old miner is now in Police custody after he was caught by the cops with a quantity of marijuana while he was travelling in a motor vehicle at Puruni, Itaballi Checkpoint, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Reports are that Police stopped the vehicle and conducted a search on several passengers at the Puruni Itaballi Checkpoint at about 08:24h on Tuesday.
During the search, two transparent plastic bags containing a number of leaves and seeds of cannabis were found hidden in the miner’s pants crotch.
As a result, he was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 60.1 grams. He is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Just three days ago a Crane, West Coast Demerara (WCD) businessman and his wife were arrested after more than 4 kilograms of ganja was found on their premises.
Police acting on information received went to the home of the businessman and executed a search on the lower flat of the building. During the search, the businessman opened a blue plastic barrel where a black garbage bag was found.
Upon checking, the ranks found three bulky transparent parcels containing the ganja. He was told of the offence during which he allegedly told the Police: “Is me weed, don’t involve me family.”
A further search was carried out at the back of his yard where a cannabis sativa plant measuring two and a half feet in height was found under a golden apple tree.  Again, he admitted to the offence.
He was told of the offence and he and his wife were arrested and escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station. The ganja was weighed in their presence and amounted to 4236 grams. The businessman has since been charged.
