Eliuge Allicock, a 26-year-old miner of Annai Village, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) was on Friday charged for the murder of Calvin Nelson, which occurred on August 5, 2023.
Allicock appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. As such, he was remanded to prison until August 29, 2023.
It was reported that following the death of Nelson, a 22-year-old female cook of Tasserene Village in the Middle Mazaruni River was contacted by law enforcement officers.
During questioning, she admitted to being in an intimate relationship with the suspect, Allicock, and revealed her prior involvement with the deceased, Calvin Nelson.
It is alleged that the woman and Allicock were consuming alcohol and became intoxicated. The situation escalated when they stopped at another shop, where Nelson was also imbibing.
The now dead man was conversing with the young woman but this angered the suspect. An argument broke out during which the suspect reportedly assaulted the female. Upon seeing this, Nelson stepped in, which led to a scuffle between the two men.
Amidst the struggle, Allicock allegedly pulled out a knife and inflicted two stab wounds on Nelson.
Following the altercation, Nelson sought refuge at another nearby shop where he was later picked up and taken to the Issano Health Post but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Days after the murder, Police issued a wanted bulletin for Allicock. He was subsequently arrested and admitted to stabbing Nelson to death.
