Miner remanded for Sand Hills fatal stabbing

More than a year after he allegedly killed Richard Culpepper during a drunken brawl at Sand Hills in the Cuyuni- Mazaruni District, a 26-year-old miner of Haslington, East Coast Demerara was on Tuesday charged with the indictable offence of murder when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Jamar Ralph was hauled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan following his arrest on May 4. It is alleged that he unlawfully killed Culpepper at Sand Hill, Cuyuni River (Region Seven) on February 10, 2016.

According to reports, F Division (Interior Locations) Police apprehended the pork-knocker just last Thursday at Omai, in the Mahdia district (Region Eight). Reports reaching Guyana Times state that Culpepper of One Mile, Potaro, was imbibing alcohol in the company of several persons when an argument ensued between them, turning into a scuffle. The suspect reportedly plunged a knife into the now deceased man’s chest during the altercation, before fleeing into the backlands.

The matter continues on May 31 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
