A 33-year-old gold miner of Mabura Landing, Upper Demerara River, was on Monday remanded to prison by Magistrate Clive Nurse on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
The defendant, Klaus Pearce, made his first appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The first charge alleged that on Saturday, March 10, 2018, he had 22 rounds of .380 live ammunition at Seaballi Backdam, Upper Demerara River, without being the holder of a firearm licence at the time.
The second charge stated that on the same date while at the same location, he had a matching .380 semi-automatic pistol in his possession without a firearm licence being in force at the said time.
According to Police information, the defendant was arrested by ranks at approximately 09:45h on the day in question at Seaballi Backdam, Upper Demerara River with the unlawful weapon and matching ammunition. He was remanded to prison until April 5, 2018.
