A 37-year-old miner of Second Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was on Tuesday evening robbed of a quantity of gold, cash, and other items by two men, one of whom goes by the name “Natty”.
Brandon Persaud was relieved of $228,000 in cash, eight pennyweight raw gold valuedat $120,000, and one Zia cellular phone valued at $18,000 at Black Water Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.
The victim told Police that he had received information that “Natty” was accusing him of stealing mining equipment.
As he was heading to the Black Water Landing to purchase diesel for his employer, he saw the suspects. He told Police that he went to “Natty’ to clear up the misunderstanding, but it was then the suspects allegedly held on to him and relieved him of the items. He was also dealt several lashes about his body with a piece of wood.
After beating him and taking the items, the men made good their escape.
Persaud later made a report at Bartica Police Station, and was subsequently escorted to the Bartica Hospital, where he was treated and sent away.
Police are on the hunt for the two men
