Miner slapped with larceny charges

A miner was released on bail after he denied two simple larceny charges when he appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Leon Archer, 24, of Kamaka Water Front, Region One (Barima-Waini), is accused of stealing a television set valued $45,000; the property of Lolita Wong on March 20, 2018 while at Kamaka.
The court also heard that on March 8, 2018, while at a shop at Kamaka Water Front, Archer stoke one silver chain valued $4000 and a pack of tablets valued $500; the property of Natilda Abraham.
Additionally, he was charged for using threatening language towards Nobert Persaud.
In court on Thursday, the prosecution did not object to bail and same was granted in the sum of $40,000 for the simple larceny charge and self-bail for the threatening language charge.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus also placed Archer on a bond to keep the peace until the conclusion of the matter, which if breached would result in Archer being remanded to prison.
The matter was transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court. The case will continue on May 21.
