A miner of Lot 167 Cummings Lodge, Georgetown, was on Friday remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on a charge of murder.

Jamil Young, 29, is accused of killing Randy Persaud on March 10, 2016, at Agricola, Georgetown.

The unrepresented defendant made a series of allegations against a number of Police officers in court on Friday.

He told court that Police officers placed a handcuff on his feet and beat him until his feet were swollen. The defendant placed one foot visibly swollen out of the dock, indicating to the Magistrate the injuries he received.

He stated that one of the officers placed a gun in his mouth and told him if he does not sign a statement he will be shot.

The case will continue on November 17.
