Miner stabbed to death during altercation; 1 suspect apprehended

42-year-old Michael John Benn, also called “Mikey”, a gold miner from Charity, Essequibo Coast, was stabbed to death during an altercation at Arangoy Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), on Sunday.
Police stated that on the day in question, the now-deceased man was at a liquor shop in the area when he became involved in an altercation with two males, during which he was stabbed in the chest.
Based on information received, one of the suspects is presently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspect.
Up to press time, Benn’s body was being stored at the Aranka Police Station awaiting transportation to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where a post-mortem would be conducted.
Investigations are ongoing.
