A drinking spree turned tragic for 43-year-old Elroy Marks of Aruka River, North West District (NWD) and formerly of Dartmouth Essequibo Coast after he was stabbed to death on Saturday at Kumaka Waterfront, Mabaruma, North West District (NWD).
Based on reports received, the now dead man and a colleague were consuming alcohol at a popular shop in the Kumaka Waterfront area when an argument broke out between them. This quickly escalated into a fight during which the suspect armed himself with a broken beer bottle and dealt Marks a stab wound to the left side of his neck.
As a result, the victim collapsed and started to bleed profusely as the suspect escaped. Marks was picked up and taken to the Mabaruma Hospital where he was seen by a doctor and admitted. However, he died while undergoing emergency surgery.
His body is at the Mabaruma Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. Meanwhile, Police acting on information arrested the suspect at his Hotoqui Village, NWD home. He is being processed for court.
