A 34-year-old man was on Saturday evening stabbed to death at Big Creek Backdam, North West District in Region One (Barima-Waini) following an argument.
The dead man has been identified as Kevin Barnes of Namrad Street, Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to reports received, the stabbing took place at about 18:30h during a row over money.
Police stated that the now dead man was involved in a card game and when it finished, an argument broke out between him and another player.
As a result, Barnes went into his bag, took out a knife and placed it in his left side pants waist. He then took the suspect’s cellphone and refused to return it.
After he left the vicinity, the deceased was approached by the suspect, who dealt him several stabs about the face and body. As a result of the injuries, Barnes collapsed and was subsequently picked up and taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A preliminary examination showed that the body received three stab wounds to his left side rib, chin and head. The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
Police have since arrested a 25-year-old and a teenager, both of whom are from Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. They are said to be assisting with the investigations.
