Miner succumbs to injuries after being struck in head

Days after he was struck in his head and left in a critical condition, 46-year-old Sceon Elias, a miner of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD), succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Bartica Hospital.
Based on reports received, Elias was hit in the head during an altercation on Sunday at Toroparo Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 17:40h on the day in question, Elias and another man were involved in an altercation during which he sustained injuries.
The injured man was subsequently taken to a medical facility at Toroparo, where he was treated for a laceration to his head. He was later transferred to the Bartica Regional Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Following the incident, the 46-year-old suspect from Four Miles, Bartica, was arrested. He is expected to be charged with murder.
