Minibus conductor charged for allegedly raping schoolgirl

Vikash Persaud, a 20-year-old route 32 minibus conductor was on Friday charged for raping a 14-year-old girl.
The man, who hails from Tuschen North, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), appeared before Magistrate Zameela Ali-Seepaul, where the charge was read to him.
According to reports, the man and the teen on February 21, allegedly met after school and went to a hotel in Bushy Park, Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
At the time, the 14-year-old girl had $100,000 in her possession, money that her mother gave her to take home.
Guyana Times was informed that Persaud used the money to pay the hotel bill and kept some for himself.
Upon returning home, her mother inquired about the money, and the teen told her what happened. The teen’s mother later reported the matter to the Leonora Police Station, and the Childcare and Protection Agency.
The man was subsequently arrested and charged. He was placed on $350,000 bail and will make his next court appearance on September 4, 2020.
Recently, a number of conductors have been placed before the courts for several sexual offences perpetrated on young school girls.
The most recent is a 22-year-old conductor who was charged and remanded to prison for the indictable offence of rape.
The man, Telvin Wilburg, of Mabaruma, Region One (Barima-Waini), was engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.
Wilburg was arrested sometime after evading the police’s apprehension after committing the offence.
