Minibus driver slapped with causing death charge

Twenty-four-year-old Ronald Balgobin, who on March 13 last reportedly drove minibus BWW 4542 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of 52-year-old Linden/Soesdyke Highway resident Yvonne Mohan on the Land of Canaan Public Road, East Bank Demerara, appeared on Monday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to the offence. He has been remanded to prison on this causing death charge.

He was also taken before Georgetown Magistrate Renita Singh on the following charges: being an unlicensed driver, breach of insurance, and reportedly providing false information to the Police on the day of the accident.
He was granted $75,000 bail on those offences, and will return to Court on May 7th.

Recap
On the day of the fatal accident, Balgobin was reportedly proceeding south on the East Bank public road allegedly at a fast rate. He lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn, and it collided with an electrical pole before flipping upside down.
He and the passengers in the minibus were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where Mohan was pronounced dead on arrival.
Two other passengers were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) and admitted for injuries they sustained.
