– Minister Collin Croal makes donation to the club
On a visit to the community of Sebai last Sunday, Local Government and Regional Development Minister Nigel Dharamlall was asked to become Patron of the Sebai Sports Club.
Club Chairman Wazim Hutson made this request of the Minister at a public meeting, and unsurprisingly, the Minister humbly agreed.
This is the first time ever that the rapidly growing and increasingly popular Sebai Sports Club has had a Minister of a sitting Government as a patron.
Located about 22 miles from Port Kaituma in the North-West District of Region One (Barima-Waini), club members have recently rebuilt the cricket pitch and constructed a stage, benab, mini-bleachers and flag pole to add to the recreational ground.
Having obtained the Minister’s agreement to become its patron, the club expressed its satisfaction by stating that it feels very elated to have the Minister on board. At first it was very difficult to have Ministers meet the people, the Club said, but now, through this Government, the Ministers are meeting the people; so, it was an opportune time, when they met the Minister, for them to make their request.
The Club is also looking to do some work on the grounds, since the COVID-19 pandemic is still in effect. Moreover, the club is aiming to have erected a multipurpose building with modern amenities, as these are all structures needed for the recreational ground.
Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley, on a visit to Sebai on Tuesday last to attend the inaugural Independence Day flag-raising ceremony, made a timely donation of $20,000 to the village, which would go towards buying uniforms for club members; while Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal donated two cricket bats, a volleyball and a football to the club through its chairman Wazim Hutson.
Hutson expressed gratitude to Minister Croal and Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley for the timely and important donations, and assured that all registered members of the club would benefit from this development and transformation.
Upon a recent request, the club had received $20,000 to aid in obtaining construction plastic for the newly built stage.
The club is currently registering its members for cricket and football.
