Minister Walrond reaffirms commitment to Region 10 tourism development
Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister, Oneidge Walrond has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the development of the tourism sector in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The Minister on Friday met with members of the Region 10 Tourism Committee (RTTC) at her office, where numerous areas of focus were discussed.
These included tourism investments within the region, with key focus on communities such as Rockstone, Great Falls, Kwakwani and other riverine areas; access to financial support by way of grants for start-up tourist groups; promoting the the region’s tourism prospects and products beyond Guyana; training in tour guiding, hospitality and customer care; rehabilitation of the Linden Heritage Museum and support for the Linden Town Week (LTW) of activities, Rockstone Fish Festival, Linden Riverfront Festival as well as Tourism Awareness Month.
The Minister also reaffirmed her Ministry’s support for activities and initiatives which stimulate sustainable economic development within the region.
Representing the RTTC at the meeting were Regional Member of Parliament (MP) and RTTC Chairman Devin Sears; Secretary, Adrian Boston; Diaspora, Sports and Entertainment Sub-Committee Chairman Lawrence Simon and Public Relations Committee Member Kady Sears.
