Misplaced view

Dear Editor,
The Opposition MP who has a problem with male handing menstrual packages to female students (INews Nov 16) has a misplaced view in this 21st century.
So, should the male cashier at the supermarket check-out not cash/handle the packet of sanitary napkins, but call for a female to so do? Or should the male not go to the pharmacy to get some pain relievers for his wife, mother, girlfriend, sister when in that condition?
Perhaps the MP has lived a sheltered life, in which if a male were to get involved in a woman’s domain, it is seen as unmanly, and it might be a cultural and religious convention in which lines are not crossed.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a male handing out, purchasing, or assisting in this regard. It is called understanding and appreciating the complexities of womanhood. This episode tells how much work is yet to be done to rid our people of false notions, fallacies and beliefs.
It is noted that the Opposition has not responded, nor have other female groups besides the Women and Gender Equality Commission.

Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
