Miss Universe 2017 to be crowned Sunday evening

The highly-anticipated Miss Universe Pageant is set for Sunday evening in the Philippines, and the delegates definitely created an impression during the preliminary competition on Wednesday evening.
The delegates competed in the swimwear and evening gown preliminary competitions. Before the competitions, however, the delegates introduced themselves to the panel of judges and the audience.
Guyana’s representative at the pageant, Soyini Fraser is making sure she uses every possible opportunity to make sure Guyana is spotted on the international stage.
At the preliminaries, she sported a Papillon Dezign evening gown created by US designer Richard Petit. For the swimwear contest, she used a Yamamay design complemented with shoes by Chinese Laundry. The Guyanese beauty will be keeping her fingers crossed to be named in the top 12 vying for the title of Miss Universe 2017. Before getting there, she would have had to score big in the three preliminary competitions among the 86 other delegates.
She is optimistic of doing well. However, the delegates from Venezuela, Ukraine, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama, Indonesia, Philippines, France, Australia and Thailand are among the top contenders for the title.
The grand finale, which is slated to be aired on Sunday evening on Fox Network, is expected to be spectacular. TVG-28 will be providing live broadcast of the pageant from 20:00h.
The judges for the evening include Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres, Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori, and Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes. The others include Mickey Boardman, the editorial director of fashion and pop-culture magazine, PAPER; TV star and former model Cynthia Bailey; and Emmy and Tony award-winning producer and activist Francine LeFrak.
The patrons will be entertained by Grammy award-winning R&B group Boyz II Men. The group is known for its 90s hits “End of the Road”; “One Sweet Day”; and “I’ll Make Love To You”. They will be joined by rapper Flo Rida at the coronation set for the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
