Miss World Guyana 2020 competition cancelled

Majesty International, the official licence holder of the Miss World Guyana franchise, announced on Wednesday the cancellation of the 2020 Miss World Guyana national competition.
According to the franchise holder, the decision was made given the prolonged uncertainty of what may happen in the upcoming months given the coronavirus pandemic and the associated preventative protocols.
“This continues to disallow event gathering, and the impact the prolonged quarantine is currently having on Guyana’s economy and the world at large along with concerns building over Guyana’s inconclusive electoral results,” a statement from the organisation said.
According to Majesty International, it had no alternative but to cancel the 2020 Miss World Guyana semi-finals and finals competition altogether, adding that these
unprecedented and unfortunate circumstances brought on by the coronavirus and the effect it is having on all lives were sad.
Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, several events worldwide have been cancelled to help curb the spread of the deadly virus. In Guyana, an 18:00h to 06:00h curfew was implemented by the Public Health Ministry. As of Wednesday, Guyana’s total number of cases were 139.
