Two days after she was reported missing, 70-year-old “Auntie Drupattie” was found in a clump of bushes at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the woman, who is said to be of unsound mind, was last seen walking the streets by her neighbours on Friday afternoon.
However, when contacted, Commander of Regional Police Division 4 (C) Assistant Commissioner Andries-Junor said that the woman died of natural causes and as such dismissed any reports that she might have died from coronavirus.
“The woman died of natural causes; she did not die from the coronavirus. She is mentally ill and lives with her son who is epileptic. She ventured out into the bushes and fell. She was found in a pasture,” he explained.
One resident, who is close to the woman’s family, stated “Aunty was not well mentally her children usually secured her in the home. Unfortunately, yesterday she walked out unseen and was missing until she was found dead this morning.”
Investigations are ongoing.
