Mixed bag for Badminton Pan Am team on first day

Guyana’s four-member team has served off its campaign at the Pan American Individual Badminton Championships 2022, and has seen a mixed bag of results on the first day of competition.
Commencing in the Men’s singles Round of 64, Tyrese Jeffrey came up against Carlos Rodriguez of El Salvador and the results were 19-21, 21-6, 21-6 in favour of Rodriguez.
However, Narayan Ramdhani gained a bye to the Round of 32, while compatriot Akili Haynes got a walkover.

In the Women’s singles Round of 64, Priyanna Ramdhani suffered a hard-fought loss to Karolina Orellana Ardon of Guatemala. Priyanna is said to have played well, but the match eventually went Ardon’s way 21-13, 21-17.
In the Men’s Doubles Round of 32, Akili Haynes and Tyrese Jeffrey came up against Kevin Lee and Tye Alexander Lindeman of Canada, and lost 21-6, 21-9. Narayan Ramdhani teamed up with Trinidadian Nicholas Bonkowsky and gained a bye to the Round of 16.

In Mixed Doubles Round of 64, the Ramdhani siblings defeated Gavin Robinson and Monyata Riviera of Barbados 21-17, 21-17 to advance to the Round of 32.
Next on the agenda for the Guyanese team, Narayan Ramdhani and Akili Haynes will head into the Men’s Singles Round of 32, the Ramdhani siblings will also compete in the Mixed Doubles, Round of 32, while Narayan Ramdhani would also feature in the Mixed doubles with his Trinidadian partner.
