Mixed results for BCCC in 2-match city tour

The Under-15 Boys’ team of the Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club (BCCC) of Region Five (Demerara-Mahaica) toured the Region Four stronghold of Georgetown on Wednesday last, and in feature 40-over matches against the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), garnered mixed results: winning against the ECC by three wickets, but losing to the GCC by 172 runs.

Batting first, ECC recorded 130 all out in 39.3 overs, with Anthony Khan’s 40 being decorated with 4 boundaries, while Ruel Prashad chipped in with 32. Bowling for BCCC, Zaid Baksh grabbed 4-7, and Rashad Gafoor took 2-15.
In reply, BCCC crept to 131-7, with Satya France chalking up a match-winning unbeaten 36 runs that included four boundaries.
In their match against the GCC, the BCCC fielded first, and this home team reached 233-8 in their allotted 40 overs. GCC left-handed stroke-maker Dominic Roberts smashed a brilliant 83, which was decorated with 11 boundaries and a lone six; while Aryan Persaud (23), Mavindra Dindyal (17) and Rahul Singh (16) each contributed to the score.

The BCCC’s Zaid Baksh, who had had a star performance in the win against the ECC, took 4-48, while Sheerdat Roopnarine took 2-25, and Guyana Under-17 player Zeynul Ramsammy grabbed 2-35.
The BCCC, in reply, were bowled out for a paltry 61 runs scored in 37.3 overs; their batsmen finding it difficult to negotiate the GCC bowlers, who shared the wickets collectively. Persaud took 2-3, while Dindyal took 2-8.
From this tour, the BCCC U-15 Team gained much needed exposure in conditions away from Berbice, and this should be to their advantage when they host the city side in a return fixture. (Brandon Corlette)
