Mocha businessman gets over 4 years for 2017 fatal accident

Cleveland Softleigh, a businessman was on Tuesday sentenced to four 4 years and 6 months imprisonment for causing the death of 64-year-old Ingrid James who was killed in July of 2017 on the Herstelling Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

He was sentenced by Magistrate Judy Latchman who told him that life is priceless after the father of six begged for leniency revealing that he begged the family to compensate them.
The charge against him alleged that on July 29, 2017 he drove motorcar PKK 3251 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death James.
It was previously reported that as a result of the collision, James’ left leg was severed and she sustained injuries to her body including her head.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre after being transported there in an unconscious state. A statement from the police had said that the woman was reportedly crossing the road when she walked into the path of the vehicle.
