MOH & MOCYS still in talks about fan attendance at WI Games
The possibility of Guyanese cricket fans being able to see West Indies and Pakistan in action later this month is still ‘up in the air’, as Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony on Wednesday disclosed that the matter is still being mulled between the two relevant Government Ministries.
This was revealed during the Health Minister’s daily COVID-19 update on Wednesday, after being posed with a question about fan attendance at Providence.
“These are discussions that we’ve started with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and we haven’t concluded those discussion as yet,” Dr. Anthony revealed.
The Health Minister went on to share, “So, as soon as we finished those discussions Minister Ramson would be able to update the public pertaining to what the outcomes are.”
Pakistan will visit Guyana as part of their Tour of the West Indies, playing three of five T20 Internationals at the National Stadium, Providence on July 31st and August 1st and 3rd. As is currently the trend, fully vaccinated fans in the Caribbean have been able to attend the games. Thus far, fully vaccinated fans in St. Lucia, Grenada and Antigua (Women’s Series vs Pakistan) have been able to watch West Indies in action, the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
The First two games in the five-match T20 International series (July 27th and 28th) will be contested at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
At the moment, work at the National Stadium, Providence is taking shape as the venue is being readied to host it’s first international matches in almost two years. Following the conclusion of the T20! Series here, the two teams will head Jamaica for a two- match Test series from August 12 – 16 and August 20 – 24.
