“Mohin” Persaud calls for good leadership in Berbice Cricket
…says Foster will do an excellent job
Managing Director of the Nand Persaud Group of Companies, one of Guyana most prominent business entities has come out in support of the call for serious changes to be made in the way cricket in administered in Berbice and Guyana.
Mohendra Persaud called “Mohin” is throwing his weight behind the call for well-known sports personality and community leader, Hilbert Foster to run for the presidency of the BCB. He is also throwing his company weight and that of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) behind the call.

In a hard hitting and candid interview with the media the famous businessman stated that, “Cricket in Berbice is at a virtual standstill; things are hay wired and lost at the moment. Cricket is a national game that runs deep within the society and various communities.”
He continued that “What is happening now is degrading, too much politics. It needs quick and urgent rehabilitation. A man like Foster with his proven track record, can stop the slid, excavate the rot and bring Berbice cricket back to where it used to be. Things need to be done differently. The world over things is done differently. The cricket needs serious upgrading to make a difference and bring persons back to the sport.”
He said that Foster reputation and achievements with the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (MS) are well known. They have Guyana’s most comprehensive Cricket Developmental and Community Enhancement Programme with teams at all levels and divisions. The club is the only one in Guyana with a female cricket programme.
Persaud, a competent hard hitting all-rounder in his hay days, is a known community activist, ardent sports personality and supporter. He still plays the game whenever time permits. He stated that I hadn’t the opportunity to go further in the game because of other commitments.”
He remembers when cricket used to be played all year around in all the nooks and crannies including the Berbice, Corentyne and Canje River areas with over 100 teams involved. “Players use to come from all parts of Guyana to be a part of Berbice cricket. Now cricket is in a sad state.”
The Company once sponsored the Port Mourant Cricket Club for a number of years, but withdrew because of some upheavals.

Persaud stated that “our company is a reputable one and Foster dealings with us have being above board. We are both pacesetter and leaders. I have no hesitation in throwing our support and that of the CCCC behind Foster for presidency of the BCB.”
