MoM initiative celebrates 1st anniversary with fitness walks countrywide
As the Men on Mission (MoM) initiative observes its first anniversary, several fitness walks were held in several policing districts countrywide on Sunday. The initiative was launched by President Dr Irfaan Ali with the aim of assisting citizens who are unable to stand on their own, especially the young, elderly, and vulnerable in society who need support and guidance.
In Region One (Barima-Waini) Police ranks were part of the fitness walk which went from Kumaka Waterfront to Broomes Airfield in the North West District (NWD).
The event brought together representatives from the regional authorities, Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, people’s militia, and residents across the region.
The fitness walk symbolised the commitment of the MoM initiative, promoting physical and mental well-being among responsible persons within the region.
At the conclusion of the fitness walk, regional officials gathered to give brief remarks where they highlighted the significant achievements of the MoM initiative over the past year while emphasising the positive impact on community engagement and overall safety in the region.
Over at Division Three, the walk commenced at the Leonora Police Station, West Coast Demerara (WCD), and concluded at the Leonora Synthetic Track where Regional Executive Officer Jagnarine Somwar; Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner M Siwnarine; Regional Health Officer, Dr Erica Forte; Chairman of the Region Three Private Sector, Noel and others addressed that gathering.
In Georgetown, the walk was led by Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, who while addressing the gathering at Base Camp Ayanganna stated that the main objective of the MoM initiative is to create change in the attitude of men in society.
He noted that moving forward, the members must account for the changes and impact of the initiative in society which must be made public. He congratulated the persons behind the fitness walks across the country but more importantly, extended gratitude to those in the Disciplined Services for embracing the MoM initiative.
In Division Seven, the fitness walk was led by Mayor of Bartica, Anthony Murray, Police Commander Dion Moore, Regional Executive Officer Kerwin Ward and Prime Minister’s Office Representative Erwin Ward.
About 60 persons participated, with representatives coming from the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Fire Service, and residents of Bartica. On completion, leaders gave brief remarks, thanking the men for their earnest support of this initiative.
Meanwhile, in Division Nine, Police ranks along with other members of the Disciplined Services and stakeholders took to the streets of Lethem.
Mayor John Macedo, the Regional Executive Officer, members of the Regional Democratic Council, cops and faith community, the Ministry of Health, the Education Department, and business stakeholders were among those who participated in the activity.
After the fitness walk, Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Raphael Rose addressed the gathering, during which he pointed out that since the launch of the Men on Mission initiative by the President one year ago, the Police in Regional Division 9 have been embarking on various projects in collaboration with the Regional Democratic Council and other stakeholders across the region.
He stated that with the marking of the first anniversary, other activities are in store to commemorate the MoM initiative.
Regional Executive Officer, K Singh said the mandate of the Men on Mission initiative received good support in the region in terms of various stakeholders collaborating and pursuing activities that can make a positive difference and improvement in the lives of persons in the various communities.
He also thanked all the business stakeholders, especially members of the Joint Services, for their continuous support and expertise in completing projects within the region.
