Moore and his Lower Corentyne troops seeking 3rd win in Georgetown clash

With players seeking to make the cut for the Regional Super 50 tournament scheduled for November 6, the third round of the SBF Petroleum Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) Jaguars 50 Overs franchise will continue today, Thursday, October 17 with four matches set to play across various venues in the country.

It will be a contrasting clash when undefeated Lower Corentyne face a winless Georgetown at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Bourda. The Veerasammy Permaul-led Lower Corentyne team defeated East Bank and returned with a victory over East Coast.

The Leon Johnson-led Georgetown team suffered defeats to Essequibo and West Demerara. With some big names in the city side, it will only be a matter of time for them to put off their first win in this tournament. After Lower Corentyne’s win against East Coast at Enmore, Coach Julian Moore caught up with this daily publication and he reflected on the team’s performance in the first two rounds.
“I think we did well in the two games, we got the result that we wanted but we still have a huge way to go in terms of the batting to get some improvement, the bowling has been the strength for us thus far and I am happy we manage to pull off the wins,” Moore explained.

Lower Corentyne bowling lies in the strength of Albion left-arm spinners Permaul, Trevon Stanislaus and Kelvin Umroa, who took 5-25 in the second-round clash against East Coast. Reflecting on his spell at Enmore, the former Guyana Under-19 player stated that it was one of his better spells.
“The pitch was suitable with a bit of moisture so it assisted me to turn the ball,” Umroa disclosed. With fellow left-arm spinner Permaul in the team, Umroa stated that Permaul has been his role model and he will continue to learn as much as possible from the veteran spinner.

Lower Corentyne batting will be led by Jonathan Foo, Kevlon Anderson and Seon Hetmyer who have been among the runs in either of the two matches they played thus far. Right-arm quick Nial Smith, Leon Swamy and Anderson are the pacers in the team.
It has been surprising that Georgetown have not found their first win with such a strong team on paper. The batting line-up for the city side includes Captain Johnson, Robin Bacchus, Raymond Perez, Christopher Barnwell, Winston Forrestor, Joshua Persaud and Steven Jacobs.

In Georgetown’s two outings, they have had scores of 99 all out and 118 all out. The batting has not been up to task thus far, but with a wealth of experience in the dressing room, the big names will be aiming to shine. With the ball, Paul Wintz had good returns while spinners Jacobs and Ashmead Nedd have been economical with wickets under their belts.
Meanwhile, the other mouthwatering clash will feature undefeated Essequibo and West Berbice at Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice. Essequibo look a formidable unit with a strong bowling attack, which includes the three Adams siblings and a fearsome Ronsford Beaton.
West Berbice will be led by Shimron Hetmyer and his comrade Kevin Sinclair, who had been brilliant with successive player-of-the-match performances along with Javid Karim, Seon Glasgow and the impressive Gudakesh Motie. It will also be a fast-bowling challenge when Keon Joseph turns out in his West Coast Berbice colours.
East Bank will meet West Demerara at Tuschen while East Coast and Upper Corentyne will battle it out at Enmore. All four of these matches that will bowl off today, Thursday, October 17 from 09:30h local time.
