More contraband items found during raid at Timehri Prison
Several searches conducted by Prison authorities at prisons throughout Guyana over the past few months have unearthed a number of contraband items, and the issue has continued to cause worry.
The trend continued on Friday when a search was conducted at the Timehri Prison and the following contraband items were unearthed: a quantity of marijuana seeds in oil; three packs of cigarettes and four cigarette lighters; one improvised smoking utensil; eight cellular phones, one memory card and reader; three cellphone chargers, several razor blades, and eight improvised weapons; six bottles of pepper sauce, four metal spoons and three bottles of fermented drinks.
This search lasted for just over three hours, and was a collaborative effort between the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Guyana Prison Service (GPS).
The items found were confiscated, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances under which they were able to enter the prison compound.
In the latter part of October, a search conducted at the Timehri Prison had unearthed a quantity of prohibited items, which included a quantity of narcotics; 2 black Samsung cellular phones and 1 Hyundai cellular phone; 5 phone batteries, 2 phone casings, 1 Digicel SIM card and 4 phone chargers; a quantity of nails, 1 mirror and 2 two-way electrical points; 9 cigarette lighters, 11 improvised weapons, 1 kitchen knife, 1 pair of scissors and 2 earpieces.
