Excel Guyana hosted a Mining Industry Career Fair to fill over 200 current positions and build a pipeline of potential candidates for another 1,500 jobs that are expected to come online in the next two years.
The event attracted more than 1,000 local job seekers, applying for all levels of mining operations from attendant to shift supervisor, as well as administrative and operations, support specialists such as logistics, lab technicians, security, as well as health and safety services.
“We are so excited for the turnout of such high-quality, local candidates. These career opportunities will enrich the lives of many Guyanese families and our community,” Chief Executive Officer of Excel Guyana Inc, Kris Sammy said.
He added that the company is proud to be a part of President Dr Irfaan Ali’s ‘One Guyana’ initiative and bring together strategic partnerships that “elevate our local and international clients, partners, and the communities that we serve.”
The company said on Monday that all the positions listed through the career fair offer a competitive salary and benefits package, with health and life insurance. “Reliable transportation will be provided for shifts that include short rotations to the mining site, which is located on shore,” the company said.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Client Services and Recruitment at Excel Guyana Inc, Ewan Shanks said that the Mining Industry Career Fair was the first step in creating sustainable, long-term careers for successful applicants. With many entry-level positions available, the firm invited participation from students at Government Technical Institute, New Guyana School, Accountancy Training Centre (ATC), Guyana Industrial Training Centre, Linden Technical Institute and New Amsterdam Technical Institute.
Shanks added “With multiple mining projects coming online in Guyana, there will be significant opportunity for growth. Our partners are actively hiring experienced mining professionals and training new professionals to grow into long-term positions with the organisations.”
